Concert Etiquette
We welcome everyone to our free performances. We do ask that for everyone's enjoyment you follow these simple guidelines for concert etiquette.
There is nothing more embarrassing than a cell phone or pager interrupting your child's performance. Please refrain from texting as well since we typically have the house lights off during our performances. The glow from a cell phone can be seen by the performers and can cause them to be distracted. It is best to turn off all electronic devices until the performance has finished.
Plan to stay for the entire concert
Bayless music concerts are typically one hour and do not include an intermission. Regardless of whether or not your child is finished with his/her portion of the performance, we do ask that you remain for the entire concert. All the performers deserve your undivided attention; afterall they all worked hard preparing the concert. You will most likely enjoy the remainder of the performance.
Ensure small children are quiet
If you have small children attending the concert please sit near a rear exit at the end of an aisle. If your child becomes fidgety, please try to wait until a song has been completed, then exit the rear of the auditorium as quietly as possible. Please do not allow your non-performing child to become the center of attention as others around you may not feel the same about the performance in the audience. Make sure you have a seat for the child inside the aisle to limit physical workouts in the aisle.
Clap appropriately
Timing and appropriateness of your applause is important to the performers. It is not recommended that you clap with the music unless directed by the director or the performing group. The invitation will be clear. Do not clap just because the music has stopped, it may just be a dramatic pause in the music to allow the audience to take in the effect of the music. Again the invitation will be clear. Loud and obnoxiuos clapping and clapping in sync with others is rude, as is clapping past the end of normal applause. The performers deserve respect. They've earned it.
Take restroom breaks between performances
Plan to use the restroom before the performance begins. Most concerts are only an hour long. If you can't make it until the end, be courteous to those around you and wait until the applause to exit the rear of the auditorium. The same goes for re-entering. Wait until the applause and enter the rear of the auditorium.
The directors and administrators for the Bayless School District and Bayless Music Department thank you for attending our concerts and for being a most courteous and supportive audience.
